The Sync System: Available in USA & Australia

The Sync System is an innovative collaboration between Mahlkönig and La Marzocco, generating an incredible amount of buzz during preview events throughout the last year. The Sync System is only available in the United States and Australia through the La Marzocco Pro app. More regions to be announced.

Cloud Connectivity

The Sync System takes advantage of the connectivity of the E80W Grind-by-Sync and E65W Grind-by-Sync espresso grinders and compatible La Marzocco espresso machines. By connecting your phone or tablet device to the grinder via the Mahlkönig Sync app and the espresso machine via the La Marzocco Pro app, you can then pair the two together through a unique new button in the app. This allows both the grinder and the espresso machine to share data to take full advantage of the pairing.

Automated Grind Adjustments

The main feature that the Grind-by-Sync grinders offer is electronic grind size adjustments. This is achieved through a small motor that controls the grind adjustment collar and a sensor that detects the distance between the burrs. While this adjustment can be set manually, the Sync System can actually use this information to make automatic adjustments to the grind based on espresso parameters that you set.

Custom Espresso Recipes

To utilize the automatic grind adjustments, the barista can input the desired espresso dose, target beverage weight or volume, and set an ideal espresso time window. The Sync System will then transmit the data from the last shot pulled back to the grinder, where the motorized grind adjustment collar will shift coarser or finer automatically to align the next espresso shot with the ideal parameters. At any point in time, the barista can adjust any of these parameters to fine tune the exact shot they want to pull, leaving them in control of their bar.

The Sync System Advantage

The Sync System is the first connected system that brings automation to traditional espresso grinders and espresso machines. While there are some superautomatic espresso machines that advertise similar features, the Sync System has two major advantages: precision and control. Because the Sync System uses grind-by-weight and brew-by-weight technologies, it’s the only automated grind adjustment system that offers the same level of recipe precision as manually adjusting your espresso grinder. At the same time, the barista can adjust the recipe at any time—something that most superautomatic espresso machines can’t achieve.

Proactive Grind Adjustment

The main advantage that the Sync System has over manually adjusting the grind is that the Sync System consistently monitors the espresso shot time with every shot pulled. That means it’s proactively adjusting the grind size based on every aspect of feedback, keeping the espresso recipe closer to precision than ever before.
